Recommendations Approved by Scholarship Committee
WITH 05/03/2025 REVISIONS
On March 22, 2025, the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs Scholarship Committee approved the following changes affecting Junior Scholarships. The changes are effective beginning with the 2026 competition. At the MFMC Convention held May 3, 2025, in Tupelo the changes were approved with the following revisions.
CHANGE 1:
The committee approved eliminating the twelve (12) $500 Music Camp scholarships to Junior Division students.
CHANGE 2:
The committee approved offering six (6) $1000 Music Camp scholarships to Junior Division students.
CHANGE 3:
The committee approved changing the required level of the mandatory NFMC Theory Test from Level 6 to Level 4.
CHANGE 4:
The committee approved changing scholarship auditions from being held at the Junior Convention to on-line auditions.
CHANGE 5:
The committee approved appointing an on-line auditions committee to be comprised of three members representing the south, central and northern regions in addition to the Scholarship Chair.
CHANGE 6:
The committee approved eliminating the requirement that a student must have participated in a NFMC Junior Festival prior to the year in which he/she competes for scholarships (not necessarily the immediately preceding year.)
CHANGE 7:
The committee approved eliminating the requirement that a student may not win a scholarship 2 years in a row but may reapply after a minimum of one year’s absence.
General Rules

Qualified Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs Junior musicians may compete for one of six (6) $1,000 scholarships to go toward attending a Music Camp. Rising 11th & 12th graders and graduating seniors may opt for their scholarship to go toward advance level lessons at the College or University of their choice.

All applicants must be members of the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs Junior Division, regular or Individual Members, be in grades 7-12, and must not have reached their 19th birthday by festival date.

To qualify to compete for the scholarship on-line, the student must have received a Superior on his/her solo performance at that year’s District Festival.

All entrants auditioning for scholarships must submit a video on-line audition of their required piece. One score must be provided for judges. [PHOTOCOPYING IS PROHIBITED.]

Winners will be announced at the MFMC Senior Convention.

No travel expense to camp is provided by MFMC.

Applicants’ records must be carefully checked by District Festival Chairmen for eligibility before the on-line audition window opens.

Musicianship/Theory Tests are required. A Superior must be earned on NFMC Theory Test Level 4 to audition for a scholarship.

Judges will be asked to name winners and a first and second alternate.

Unless the highest standards of performance are met, no winners will be declared.
